If a tree runs a 5k. . .

I did it. I ran my first 5k last weekend. Ok, I had to walk part of it, but I'm still happy. I beat my personal best time! I did it! Truthfully, it was kinda fun. In fact, [gulp] I'm going to do another one. I want to be able to run an entire 5k, so I'm going to keep training. (I know. I think I need medication for this whole "temporary insanity" thing I've got going on! It seems to keep happening. . .)

Here's the really crazy thing. You can look up all of the runners and their times on this website. Except I'm NOT there. . .so does that mean that I didn't run or that I didn't finish or that it doesn't count or. . .I think the answer to this could save the age-old question about the tree falling in the forest thingy or at least a similar "does the race count if no one records it" question. So, what do you think?

Rednecks R Us Returns and Offers Tidbits

Remember my impulsive decision to RUN a 5K?! Well, tomorrow is the day. I pray I survive. I am disappointed. Weird, nagging shin splints forced me backwards for awhile, so I am not where I want to be. I will NOT be able to run the whole race; I'll have to run/walk it. I'm trying to stay positive, so last night, Kady and I had fun mother-daughter time, where we treated ourselves to pedicures (and manicures, in her case). You know, a toddler can be very persuasive. She kept telling me she would make my toes pretty. She said I would "lub" it.

She's right. I do. I absolutely "lub" my fuchsia pink toes. She had to go over the toes a few times to get the spots she missed. That's right. Toes. Not toenails. (I'm not sure the picture from my phone does it justice. . .)
In other news, you know you are a redneck who lives in Arkansas, when your toddler tells you she has a tick in her ear. . .and then pulls out a white piece of wax. Eeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! See you Monday!
(Does anyone else think fuchsia is spelled incorrectly? It looks SO wrong, but spell check can't be wrong--can it?)

wfmw tracking weight loss

Sometimes, I amaze myself. I often jump before looking. I volunteered (Who does that?!) to run a 5k. . .and I am NOT in shape! I've been training using the couch to 5k program you can find on cool runnings. My weight, however, had not budged.

Now, I am loving this new website a friend of mine introduced me to. It's called sparkpeople.com, and it lets you input your cardio/strength training info and nutrition info OR let it customize a strength training and meal plan (complete with weekly shopping list) for you. How cool is that? You set up your own page (check out mine HERE) where you can motivate and be motivated by others! I'm afraid to say that I am addicted to it. . . and it's starting to work. I've lost about 7 pounds. More than that, however, I've gotten great encouragement from people who have been through/are going through what I am. The site also gives you points for your hard work, which makes you feel like you're really doing something--even when the scale doesn't!! It works for me. another observation from the hamster wheel

Last week was rough. I had a very difficult time exercising, and well, let's just say the diet was non-existent. It's very disconcerting to feel you're not making any progress. And my knees hurt. And my calves hurt. And I haven't lost an ounce. And it's not fun. And I'm busy. And I don't have anyone to work out with. And. . .

Enough of the pity party. Here's my quandary. I need something low in sugar and calories that I can eat for breakfast. Oh, and the prep has to be basically non-existent. So, whatcha got? Any good weight loss/healthy breakfast ideas out there?

I'll leave you with one questionable funny--just don't tell my brother or his wife. My candy-loving daughter came this close to feeding my never-tasted-real-sugar-and-never-will-if-his-mama-has-anything-to-say-about-it nephew an m&m. I think my uber healthy sister-in-law (who's usually laid back) almost died. Not a good idea, Sis.

Delusion has left the building. . .

and reality is alive and well. There is no freakin' way I can run a 5k! What was I thinking? I'm pretty sure my heart stopped today. Why shouldn't it? My entire body needed a break at that time. . .Holy crap.

they're trying to kill me

So, you know, I've been trying this whole "exercising" thing, right? Yeah. I think it might kill me. I'm up to jogging the distance to the fridge and walking the rest. Actually, that's not exactly true. You guys are right. I have a long ways to go, but I have been impressed with what my body has done.

My sister-in-law (the one that wears single digit size clothes) is great. She's very low key, typically. She doesn't talk much. She's very quiet. I should have known I was in trouble when she was PUMPED about my idea to run a 5k. She's going to design a training regimen for me. . .Never mind that I told her and my brother that I had one. . .I'm quite sure she is unfamiliar with the level of laziness and out-of-shapeness that awaits her efforts. Not to sound paranoid or anything, but do you think this could be some elaborate plan to kill me? If so, I can think of much less painful ways to die.
